Top 8 Albums of 2016

So as the year of death is soon to be ending soon, I thought it would be fitting to put my top 8 albums of the year. This is a purely subjective list of the albums that I enjoy listening, so don’t be surprised when your favorite album isn’t on here.

So with that out of the way, let’s begin:

No. 8: Imperial – Denzel Curry

(I’m basing this off of the Spotify release)

This album by rapper Denzel Curry is a great one, although the second half kinda got bogged down a little bit due to the instrumentals but the first half is so amazing that I’m surprised it’s not an EP instead of an album. The second have of this album isn’t bad it just doesn’t compare to the first half of the album.

FAV track(s): Me Now and Sick and Tired

Least FAV Track: Zenith

No. 7: Untitled Unmastered – Kendrick Lamar

Coming off the To Pimp A Butterfly catalog, we have this compilation album consisting of unfinished demos from To Pimp a Butterfly, essentially making the album complete per say. All of the songs on this compilation are all titled ‘untitled’ followed by the corresponding number and the date of when was this recorded.

FAV Track: untitled

Least Fav Track: untitled

No. 6: Blackstar – David Bowie

This album by the unfortunately deceased celebrity David Bowie explores his expected demise and it is very heart-wrenching all the way to start to finish. This album explores the concept of death and delivers it in very catchy songs and was released only two days after his death.

FAV Track(s): Lazarus and Girl Loves Me

Least FAV Track(s): …

No. 5: You Want it Darker – Leonard Cohen

This album by the also unfortunately deceased artist Leonard Cohen is a much darker album than Blackstar, both vocally and instrumentally. His rough voice and the haunting choir makes this an album that is both relaxing and spine chilling, all at the same time.

FAV track: Steer Your Way

Least FAV track: On The Level

No. 4: Skeleton Tree – Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

This album has to be the most depressing album this year, and its from a guy who is not dead believe it or not (thank god!!). The album explores Nick Cave’s son’s death, Arther Cave, who died from a accidental cliff fall last year, and among other things. This is a heart-wrenching album to the tenth degree and that’s not a bad thing at all.

FAV Track(s): Distant Sky, Girl in Amber, Skeleton Tree

Least FAV Track: Anthrocene

No. 3: Bottomless Pit – Death Grips

This is the the fifth album by the rap group Death Grips. This is a album that is filled to the brim with catchy songs, arguably their catchiest record since The Money Store from 2012. MC Rides vocal performances vary from calm and trippy (like the songs ‘Eh’ and ‘Trash’) to the more angry and aggressive (like the song ‘Giving Bad People Good Ideas’ and ‘Hot Head’). Catchy hooks, Catchy instrumentals and angry rapping, this is a Death Grips in a nutshell and this album is no exception.

FAV Track: BB Poison

Least FAV Track: Bottomless Pit

No. 2: Nails – You Will Never Be One Of Us

There is one word to describe this album: AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There, that is all you need to know.

But seriously, this album is powerviolence excellence that will make you scream ‘HELL YEAH’ all the way through.

FAV Track(s): You Will Never Be One Of Us, Life is a Death Sentence, Savage Intolerance, They Keep Crawling Back.

Least FAV Track: …

No. 1: Atrocity Exhibiton – Danny Brown

This is my favorite this year for me. This is a crazy album. From the cover art, the instrumentals and Danny Brown’s vocal delivery (both calm and crazy) and I love this album because of it.

FAV Track(s): Pneumonia, Really Doe, Get Hi

Least FAV Track: Hell for it (Not a bad song, just OK)

That’s my list. Do you agree with the choices? Do you disagree? Let me know in the comments.

Media Expression End of Course Reflection

In this module, I have learned about storyboards, editing, learning to use audio and video equipment, different types of letters, etc.

The areas I did well on was the editing on the team project I did with Brendan and Mark, among other things.

I had no difficulty with what I have learned.

I would like to learn more about video editing as I am still a bit rusty on Premiere.

My next big step is the next module that is going to begin in January.
